School Board Approves Senior Tax Relief

Jackson County Georgia – The Jackson County School Board of Education, on August 15, 2023, voted to approve a new tax relief measure for seniors that was spearheaded by Commissioner Chad Bingham, BOE Member Ty Clack, and a group of Citizens from the Cresswinds Community in Hoschton. The measure will provide a significant reduction in property taxes for homeowners starting at age 62 and older.

  • Age 62 Homestead tax exemption increased from $10,000 to $25,000.
  • Age 65 Homestead tax exemption increases from $50,000 to $75,000.
  • Age 70 Homestead tax exemption increases from $50,000 to $125,000.

This is a victory for our seniors. They have worked hard their entire lives and deserve to enjoy their retirement without having to worry about school M&O property taxes.

The new measure will provide an significant tax savings every year for eligible seniors. These savings can be used to pay for essential expenses such as groceries, medication, and utilities.

This tax relief will help our seniors stay in their homes and in our community. It is the right thing to do. The tax relief measure will go to the state for a vote and when passed, it will be placed on the November 2024 ballot for County wide vote by the citizens of Jackson County.
